I read a news story today that the US budget deficit had “dipped” to 1.1 trillion dollars. Exceuse me if I don’t break out into my version of the “Happy Dance” but I can’t seem to get to thrilled with such ominous news. A deficit of that magnitude threatens our stability as a nation and our viability as a people. But the most frightening bit of analysis came later in the story when the author wrote:

The Congressional Budget Office report also says that annual deficits will remain in the $1 trillion range for the next several years if Bush-era tax cuts slated to expire in December are extended, as commonly assumed.

That statement represents the stilted thinking of a government-favoring progressive who sees tax cuts as harmful expenses that must be eliminated rather than as desirable and beneficial to citizens. The reason this thinking exists is because liberals/Progressives/Democrats think that government is immune to the vagaries of reality. In fallow times, when the rest of us tighten our belts and cut our budgets, government cannot be expected to do the same. It is impossible for us to imagine or, more boldly, demand that government downsize for any reason.

We now have government for government’s sake. Government has become a powerful god…a false idol that must be worshiped and accorded all power and glory. After all, if one treats government good, good things come from government. This is a particularly beneficial truism for those who have traded their vote for generous goodies…and their life’s sustenance. It is the ultimate symbiotic quid pro quo, and an unfortunate individual-government co-dependence. And it is the nourishing substrate upon which many political parasites feast. Self-serving pols who seek power, riches and glory insinuate themselves into this co-dependency, promising and then delivering more, and then reaping the rewards. Chief among these rewards is political longevity. After all, who is going to be foolish enough to bite the hands that feed them?

So, accordingly, politicians have rigged our system. They have configured social programs and “entitlements” as mandatory, untouchable spending. This is important because even considering changing these taboo expenditures is akin to sticking ones wet finger into a power outlet. It is tantamount to political suicide!! Just look at what has historically happened to courageous politicians who have suggested tweaks or, ohmigod, the complete elimination of these socio-political sacred cows. They are fist ridiculed by the Progressives…and then run out of town on a rail by “angry” (read: greedy) voters. Those lucky enough to survive the maelstrom never, ever broach that subject again.

What happens? We all suffer because government is treated as sacrosanct. It must never be changed or reduced, else all manner of evil will befall us. The implication is that there is a fair percentage of us who simply can’t take care of themselves without the doting of a nanny government. If we were to prohibit government’s role in social programs like Social Security or Medicare/Medicaid then the sky would literally fall. Because we all know that government is the fairest arbiter of services and has the purest of intentions. Right?

So rather than eschew the yoke of control placed on us by government or reject the liberty-stealing government dictates and regulations, we have become inured to being killed with kindness. But the only fatality is our free, independent spirit. Unfortunately, we’ve traded traded this spirit for a 1.1 trillion dollar deficit. It is the ultimate self-serving dirty deal that we’ve done. Why? Because we can never hope to pay off this intergalactic-sized burden, so by default that responsibility is deferred to our children and grandchildren (and perhaps great-grandchildren.)

Until we can change our thinking to cherish liberty in all its forms and reject statism in all its forms, then we are, I’m afraid, doomed. How unfortunate and perverse that there are a fairly large portion of our society that believes that a lowering of taxes is a bad thing, and a “cost” to our government. This is truly a form of mental illness…or the ultimate manifestation of greed, envy and covetousness. Because many of the folks who feel this way pay little or no taxes, and yet receive their livelihood from the government. They’re willing to do anything to keep this situation the same — so long as anything is defined as voting for vote-whoring pols who promise the recipients of government-confiscated largess that the gravy train will go on forever.

There are two ways that this sinful thinking will change: We can “educate” the freeloaders and over time hope that they see the error in their ways and in their thinking, or we can just wait until the defective system implodes and fails. If I were a betting man, I’d bet my money on the latter. But since I’m a realist…I’m putting my money into precious metals, supplies and water. Because old, ingrained habits die hard and an all-powerful government operates under the delusion that it can control everything, including the laws of nature and the realities of fate.

Unfortunately, the lesser angels of man’s existence tend to rule the day. Sin is always easier than virtue. And government is like a storage battery for the zeitgeist energy of the contemporary society. Right now our government is being charged by sin. It’s not a good situation of the upright and virtuous. Or for those who value the Constitution.

For your own sakes, keep your eyes open and your morals strong. It is going to be a bumpy, tumultuous ride to where we’re going.

A wide open window was provided into the minds of college students by the apparently deep-thinking students who attended Rick Santorum’s Q&A session at New England College yesterday. On full display was the sclerotic and stilted thinking that is typified by our new liberal, progressive indoctrination and propaganda immersion. Simply put, the students in the audience were so fixed in the precepts of the liberal ideology that they have been inculcated in that they cannot reason or debate with any effectiveness. Just listen to the pathetic stance that the “students” take vis-a-vis Rick Santorum trying to have a measured debate/discussion with them. And to add class upon class, they boo and jeer him at the end. How very adult and mature of you all.

I was always under the impression that the purpose of education was to transform empty minds into open ones. But the real mission of education nowadays, colleges and universities in particular, is to turn out Progressive ideology clones who will unquestioningly tow the party line, regardless of facts to support contrary conclusions. The student’s reasoning has been conditioned upon how they feel (or more importantly, how they are *expected* to feel), and they tend to shut down their thinking if the discussion strays from comfy-cozy self-serving ideological territory. Again, school is supposed to instill an inquisitiveness in students, and prepare them for the real world where issues and problems are not so cut-and-dried.

It is disheartening to see students in so-called “higher education” act like they did at NEC last night. No only do they need to be taught proper manners and social graces, they need to be instructed as to how to comport themselves in a structured debate…where the free exchange of ideas is favored over the desperate clinging to per-conceived notions and ideological totems. Unfortunately Rick Santorum was treated to this boorish and disrespectful behavior by some of the spoiled brats who attend NEC, and from this treatment his views on gay marriage and other salient social topics will continue to be twisted, distorted and misrepresented in order to take a bite out of the guy’s hide.

This is the Progressive political playbook in full bloom! So don’t be at all surprised that this happens, and that the mainstream media encourages this bad behavior and wrong conclusions. These students just don’t know how useful as “useful idiots” they were last night…and how their naivete will be similarly exploited in the months and days leading up to the election of 2012.

Despite the outward appearances to the contrary, the Democrats, Progressives and Liberals (DPLs) are gripped with fear. A glance at the state of our country, society and economy will give you a pretty good impression why.

The big government, nanny state vision of America as espoused by DPLs is imploding right before our eyes. Imploding big time! The mountainous deficits, the ever-increasing joblessness and small societal things like the increasing-in-number violent flash mobs are all the direct result of DPL ideology and government programs. Profligate social spending (regardless of the cries that we spend too much on defense), suffocating government regulations and a pervasive entitlement attitude are at the core of those economic, business and criminal problems.

The DPL folks in Congress know this…they can read the writing, or should I say graffiti, on the wall. Many of the hard-core DPL ideologues are twisting and contorting themselves into logical pretzels in order to explain away or ignore the obvious — that big government, wealth redistribution, welfare state policy and programs have failed spectacularly.

If creating a per-person debt that cannot be paid-off in one’s lifetime was the goal of the New Deal and Great Society…as well as all the other government goody give-away programs, then the DPLs can claim success and plant the flag of victory on Mount Debt. But I think most folks who are concerned, patriotic Americans (at least those concerned about their children’s futures) see things differently. They see racking up more and more and more debt as a crippling legacy that our generation will pass on to the next and the next and the next. Trillions and trillions of dollars spent to, for the most part, insure that scheming, craven politicians enjoyed a life-long lock on their political position. And to provide an elite few with power, both economic and political, that was never intended by the Framers.

But what was done was done without our (the citizen’s) permission and with generous interpretations of the Constitution in favor of almost unlimited congressional power. And although it has been one heck of a ride so far for the DPL folks, and has spawned numerous long-lived political careers (Ted Kennedy, Robert Byrd immediately come to mind), it seems that lately the excess and profligacy of the DPL are catching up to them. Our economy and the nation’s fiscal situation are unraveling right before our eyes…debt is mounting and individuals are finally recognizing the trouble that has been caused by those who purportedly preached good times for oh so long.

The Tea Party and many conservative Republicans, Paul Ryan and Michelle Bachmann to name but two, are now leading the charge to reduce government spending as well as to reduce the size of government. We have come to the point where our government taxation and spending simply cannot be supported by our tenuous GDP. So, we can either cut those programs that are supposed to benefit us all, like the military, or we can cut the military in favor of preserving vote-grabbing social benefits and programs. Doing the latter is so short-sighted as to be ridiculous — and really not a viable option at all in a world where jihadists run free and the Chinese are hurriedly modernizing their military. Therefore, we must reduce social programs and either eliminate them immediately or reform them and then phase them out gradually. Many people recognize this need, and they are increasingly clamoring for such actions to occur.

Which brings us to prominent DPLer’s…up to and including President Barack Obama, and the likes of Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee. In recent weeks, both these Democrats have made excoriating statements regarding the Tea Party and those in the political opposition who would reduce the size of government.

You can almost smell the fear! As his favorability ratings are shrinking virtually every day, Mr. Obama is desperately searching for some way of reversing that trend. If you don’t believe me, just visit Rasmussen Reports for the bad news delivered on a daily basis. Despite his trying REAL hard, his economic agenda…punctuated by oppressive regulations and a “tax the rich” divisive mantra, is not currying favor with voters who see through this attempt at class warfare. So we have attacks on conservatives and the Tea Party by Obama and his DPL surrogates, like Ms. Jackson Lee.

So, be on the lookout for more of the same. Watch for the gratuitous attacks on “tea baggers” and on GOP presidential candidates — particularly those who deign to speak out about the Ponzi schemes that are Social Security and Medicare. It’s sort of gratifying to watch…the squirming, the fear mongering, the insults and, there’s no other way to put it, the lies.

Honestly, you can almost smell the fear…

It’s Anthropogenic Global Warming! Until it isn’t…or maybe it’s the scourge of Climate Change. Uh, nope. Or, perhaps it’s just the weather being the unpredictable weather. Hey, I think we’re onto something! An interesting tidbit from the cyclone and hurricane observers at Florida State University (Dr. Ryan Maue): Recent historically low global tropical cyclone activity. Maybe it’s just me, but I thought that all manner of bad things, meteorologically-speaking, were going to befall us due to AGW and our continued use of all things CO2-producing. Who would have guessed that  the DIRE predictions of super-strong hurricanes and cyclones that made Katrina look like a kitten in comparison would be dashed…at least they’ve been if we’re to believe the good Dr. Maue. Oh well, maybe these things are caused by, now take a seat you climate scaremongers, THE VAGARIES OF THE RANDOM WEATHER!!! I dunno…seems like a theory to me.

Tipping Point? There are incidents which occur that leave you scratching your head and make you think “What were they thinking?” There are other incidents that occur that make you think that we as a nation have reached a tipping point, and that perhaps the scale is weighted such that we are at a point of no return. Behold, a tipping point: Elderly woman asked to remove adult diaper during TSA search. Where has all logic and sanity gone in our government when an incident such as this may occur? It is abundantly clear that the TSA is no longer concerned just about our “safety,” whatever the hell that may be. No, I’m afraid that their intentions are more sinister at heart: They are gaining control over us! Now, I assume that we’re all still freeborn American men and women with certain inalienable rights: like those pesky attributes life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness spelled out in the Declaration of Independence and codified in the Constitution. For example, situations like what happened with the ailing, 105 pound, wheelchair-bound, 95 year old woman in her “encounter” with the TSA are most handsomely covered in the Fourth Amendment to the Constitution:

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

Read that passage very carefully and tell me that what the TSA is presently doing in the name of “safety” has any constitutional basis whatsoever. I’ll cut immediately to the chase for you — it doesn’t. This unfortunate lady was subjected to an unreasonable search of her person, without the benefit of a court order and furthermore was humiliated in her having to remove a very personal hygiene product at the order of a TSA “official.” Benjamin Franklin was right when he opined so many years ago:

“Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.”

His words ring true…as an ominous warning, even today.

Liberalism/Progressivism Has Failed. OKAY, it’s high time to start stating the obvious: that the precepts, agendas and programs that constitute the ideology called liberalism/Progressivism have failed. Spectacularly. Since the nascent probings of Progressivism by Teddy Roosevelt to the full-bore adoption of Progressive/socialist programs by Franklin Roosevelt, the US has suffered a great harm regardless of the “good” that all the hard-earned money spent on this ideology is alleged to have done. Regardless of the party line and the hype, we have come to the end. We are BROKE! There is no way to tax and spend our way out of the fiscal, social and moral abyss that we have backed ourselves into. For Americans, the FAILED ideology of liberalism/Progressivism isn’t the answer. It is the illness. The only way out of the present mess we find ourselves in is to re-adopt the prudent, frugal and austere precepts that are found in the Constitution. We must abandon our profligate and sinful ways and become the perfected society, based on constitutional and free-market principles, that we should be. I think that many Americans are waking from their profligate stupor; and they are realizing that the math that the Progressives espouse just doesn’t add up. There are no free rides, and you can’t get something for nothing (or almost nothing.) That taxing the “rich” only gives you the wages of sin (sloth, greed and envy) and that “helping” the poor with perpetual government alms and “charity” only breeds contempt and idleness from the “beneficiaries.” it’s time to shout the failure of this cancerous, unproductive ideology from the rooftops! “Liberalism/Progressivism is DEAD! Long live freedom and capitalism!!!”

Nothing New Under the Political Sun. It is indeed the silly season. Since the beginning of the 2012 presidential campaign we have seen the Dems/Progs/Libs ramp up their rhetoric and redouble their ad hominem attacks on the GOP candidates. One need to look no further than Michelle Bachmann for this political and media fold and spin job. Rep. Bachmann is truly a woman of substance. She has numerous scholastic, personal, business and political achievements to her credit. But unlike the Marxist Barack Obama, she is hated by the media and reviled by her political opponents for her strong conservative beliefs. See, regardless of the cries for more “civility” in the political discourse after the tragic shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, Rep. Bachmann has been the recipient of some odious “scrutiny” for alleged gaffes and misstatements. In a recent interview on FOX News Sunday, host Chris Wallace asked her if she was “a flake?” Rep. Bachmann is definitely not a flake…and such a question is both demeaning and insulting, regardless of Wallace’s intent. If the “flake” question by Wallace can be considered friendly fire, Ms. Bachmann had better steel herself for a fusillade of invective and insults that are now being dreamed up by the “civilized” left — from both media and politicians. Because the one thing we can count on is that there is NOTHING new under the political sun, particularly where desperate Democrats are concerned.

Morons, psychopaths and mental defectives…If you guessed I was talking about Obama supporters, then ding, ding, ding…you’re correct! I cannot imagine a group of more brain dead sheeple than those who presently give our rambling, bumbling POTUS high marks for performance. Rasmussen has him at 50% favorability in today’s poll. With ever-increasing unemployment numbers, inflation on the move upward, increasing oil/gasoline prices and the price of food at 10 year highs I would imagine that any other president would suffer some unfavorability. But his trusty minions in the lamestream media have kept Mr. Obama afloat in the churning seas of his own making. I’m hoping that Israel supporters of all religions will start to drag his favorability down to where it belongs (probably in the high 30′s) after they’ve had a chance to cogitate on his truly breathtaking treachery involving Mideast “peace” and his “return to 1967 borders” comment.

“Never can say goodbye.” Folks are clutching on to the notion of “free” healthcare in spite of the facts presented to them that Medicare will collapse in 2030 (according to the actuary of the CBO.  We know this because a majority of Americans polled are not in favor of Rep. Paul Ryan’s (R-WI) plan to overhaul this bank-breaking behemoth federal program. But regardless of their reluctance to embrace Ryan’s proposed changes, or their wholesale buying of the negative hyperbole and outright lies being put forth by the Democrats against both Mr. Ryan and his proposal, something will need to be done to rein in the astronomical costs of this failing program. What will those who now clutch at this program do when it eventually fails? Leave it to their children or grandchildren to clean up the mess? Or worse, allow the country to default on its “promises” to Medicare recipients? It’s tough medicine to swallow, but something must be done. The Dems are demagoging this issue and making political hay with Ryan’s proposal and the support of it by many in the GOP. Granny gets rolled off the cliff…the GOP are uncaring and hard-hearted. Phooey!! But such are the conundrums that we face when we stray from the Constitution and roll out social programs that were never intended by the Framers. There are really only two choices…admit to ourselves that changes must be made, and grin and bear those changes, or…enable craven politicians to use Medicare as a political third-rail issue and see it eventually fail and produce dire financial consequences for our nation.

Barack Obama, The Tin (Ear) Man. There has probably never been another American president that has a tinnier ear for pomp, circumstance and protocol when it comes to interacting with other world leaders and notables than our current executive. He has an embarrassing track record of bowing to despots and dictators, speaking at inappropriate times, giving inappropriate or insulting gifts and “speechifying” in a manner that infuriates Americans, friends and allies alike. This latest gaffe, speaking over God Save The Queen, wasn’t covered much by the lamestream, but it was a world-class gaffe for a supposed first-string world leader. It was just another embarrassing and infuriating example of this president’s bull-in-the-china-shop approach to diplomacy and international relations. At this point in his term, I’m convinced that our friends and allies see the Obama’s as ebony hillbillies who are  not trainable in the diplomatic arts, and individuals who perhaps mean well, but just have a knack for getting things wrong.

Not My Cuppa Tea! The NY-26 congressional race was an interesting political battle. In a race distinguished by the lackluster field of candidates of all parties… Democrat Kathy Hochul, the eventual winner, Republican Jane Corwin and “Tea party” candidate Jack Davis. Davis was actually a Democrat using the the Tea party moniker to compete in the general election. Democrat pundits are using this sole, obscure victory to indicate the public’s displeasure with Paul Ryan’s Medicare proposal. But this race should give GOP candidates nationwide pause and chasten them to Democrat political treachery and chicanery. See, the Dems engaged in combination “divide and conquer” and “addition by subtraction” scheme to win this election. The addition of the ersatz Tea Party candidate Davis certainly siphoned prospective votes from Corwin. And since Hochul didn’t win by a plurality of the vote, or by a margin that was greater than the vote tally of Davis, then she really didn’t have a mandate…nor was there a clear mandate associated with her election. mark my words, candidates in the mold of Davis are going to crop-up nationwide in the 2012 election. GOP candidates are going to have to make a bigger deal of the duplicitous, phoney Tea party candidates as they appear…and educate their electorate as best as possible. Because the Democrats don’t care how they win — corpses, convicts or livestock voting, or by tricking serious conservative voters that a liberal Democrat candidate running is a serious Tea Party candidate. Let the games begin.

Didn’t You Know bin Laden is DEAD??? I think we’re seeing the framework of Barack Obama’s re-election plans come together, and it is a simple plan indeed. He is going to be the slayer of Osama. The defender of the Republic. I can just see the questions at the presidential debates:

  • Moderator: Mr. President, how do you explain the 9% unemployment and trillion dollar deficits to the average American voter?
  • Obama: Well, let me say this, I GOT OSAMA BIN LADEN!!! Ya know.
  • Moderator: Yes, Mr. President…grated. But what about the stifling regulations that are coming from the Obama administration?”
  • Obama: Well, I did KILL OSAMA BIN LADEN!!! That is a change we can believe in!
  • and so on…

The snuffing of Osama is going to wear thin real fast, I’m sure. But that won’t stop Obama from taking his share of victory laps, trying to extract maximum political advantage from his “courageous” decision. Now, indeed the president did eradicate this mad dog terrorist leader. But, contrary to the ecstasy being enjoyed by the unfortunate Joe Biden, snubbing Osama was the president’s job. He was supposed to get bin Laden if he could, dead or alive. And Biden’s eddic hyperbole aside, a courageous decision by a president is exemplified by Harry Truman’s truly mind-numbing decision to nuke two Japanese cities to aid in ending WWII. Truman’s decision is a model of courage and leadership. In comparison, what Obama did in regards to eliminating Osama was like taking out the White House trash.

Where’s The Outrage?? Well, the hypocrisy of the Democrats has been revealed in full glory with the renewal of the Patriot Act (PA.) Nary a sniff or grunt has been heard from the list of the usual congressional suspects who had no compunction in excoriating George W. Bush for his embrace of the PA after 9/11. But since Obama is the beneficiary of the renewal, then all is right in America…even though the renewed provisions, including overseas wiretaps, were seen as unconstitutional and intrusive when President Bush was POTUS. My question is: Where’s the outrage?? Cue the crickets.

Stating the Obvious. A big news tidbit over the past few days has been the fact that the Hispanic population in the US is now over 50 million. Well, duh! With an open southern border to Mexico, I’m surprised that this number isn’t bigger! The soft-skulls in the lamestream seem somehow enthralled with this population growth in the Hispanic community…seeing it as somehow a win for diversity. It would be if we had a secure border with orderly immigration. But embracing this unchecked population growth, knowing full well that a vast majority of it is due to illegal immigration is self-destructive to our nation and an odd display of encouragement by the supporters of this growth.

God Bless Joplin, MO. The people of Joplin had to endure an unspeakable tragedy. One minute they were experiencing a warm, mid-spring evening and the next, almost in the wink of an eye, their community was almost completely obliterated. It is heartening and encouraging to see neighbor-helping-neighbor in Joplin. These folks, who experienced utter devastation of their material possessions, didn’t wait for FEMA trucks or the federal government to come to their rescue. There were no “Rescue Me” signs and people just doing nothing. Although they lost EVERYTHING, most of the folks spent countless hours searching for family and neighbors, and helping to collect and pass out supplies to the other dazzled survivors. Post-Katrina New Orleans and post-tornado Joplin provide a perfect contrast between the two societies that we live among in the United States. New Orleans had too many folks dependent upon the largess of the federal government, unwilling to take charge and save themselves. Joplin, however, had folks who couldn’t care less if FEMA trucks and government assistance never came — because they have each-other. Gob bless those who were taken in this random act of nature’s fury…and God grant the survivors the grace and strength to endure and survive this disaster.

[BTW -- I'm baaaaaaack! And I will strive to have more regular postings from here on in!! enjoy!]

German Chancellor Angel Merkel has started down a road to close ALL nuclear power plants presently operating in Germany based on the recent tsunami-based crisis in Japan. Merkel has begun the process to close the oldest plants as soon as possible.

This decision is a prime example of the sad fact that politicians can take actions out of fear and/or ignorance that have wide ranging unintended national and economic consequences. Germany’s present nuclear power generation capacity is 20,339 megawatts, or 26.1% of the total national capacity. What will happen to Germany when this 26% capacity disappears from their power grid? What form of energy will be utilized by Germany to take up the slack left by the absence of nuclear power? Does Merkel think that magical windmills and space-hogging solar facilities will replace the significant power capacity as provided today by nuclear energy? These are all questions with no substantive answers for the German people.

All the panic and rash political decisions as a result of the Fukushima nuclear plant issues after the tsunami are simply Theater of the Absurd…and Theater of Political Desperation. The best thing we can do as the collective human race, regardless of national status, is learn from the Fukushima crisis. We need to learn what are the costs to human safety, what are the costs of decontamination and, finally, what are the costs to the nation from the loss of this power generating plant — with no viable backup for many years? The answers to these questions can then be used to then implement government regulations affecting new nuclear power plant construction that will prevent another Fukushima crisis. This would be a very prudent use of government energies, actions and plans.

Humans learn from our mistakes. If we fail to learn lessons from what happened at Fukushima, then we have truly let a crisis go to waste. Irrational actions by the likes of Angela Merkel in Germany might appeal to greenies and Luddites, but they cheat average German citizens from a safe, viable, clean and effective source of power generation for a long, long time. There can be no (NO) long-term national energy policy that may exist without the inclusion of nuclear power. For any leader or any government to claim otherwise is a lie and a sham.

Angel Merkel’s actions have shown that decisions for politically-correct motivations may appear at face value to be in the best interests of a nation or a people. But upon closer inspection, Ms. Merkel has ultimately returned Germany to a reliance on technologies, wind and solar, that are firmly rooted in the 15th century and that cannot provide sufficient power for Germany to remain a play on the worked economic stage. Because of a single crisis, surrounded by extreme fear-mongering by the international media, she is turning her back on an energy source that will provide all humans with cheap, safe and effective energy for centuries to come.

If that was Ms. Merkel’s intention, then MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. If it wasn’t…then don’t bet on Germany any time soon. They will be going nowhere.

Labor of Love: The economic and employment situation must be dire indeed when the financial markets embrace, then rise on, an ADP report stating that 217,000 jobs were added in February over the 180,000 that were predicted. My math informs me that this represents an annual increment of 444,000 jobs. That works out to less than one-half of one percent of the total working population. If this news is somehow titillating to investors…and cause for an 8.78 point rise in the Dow, then things have become so irrational that my mattress or a hole in the woods is looking better and better as a place to park my 401k balance.

Belaboring Their Position: The protesters in Madison, WI have definitely wrung out their 15 minutes of fame. If I may speak for the average citizen (in whose class I am firmly entrenched), you have made your point, spoken your piece and worn out your welcome. The carnival that now exists in Madison, under the guise of decrying Draconian union “rights” truncation, has now become a forum for socialists and insurrectionists. Perhaps the teachers and union supporters are unwitting “useful idiots,” or perhaps they just don’t care. But I think there is some kind of mutually-beneficial arrangement between the unions and the socialists — their mission statements are essentially the same and their main aims (collectivization) are complementary.

Eric Holder — Attorney General for Blacks?: A recent comment by US Attorney General Eric Holder makes me wonder if he is really the legal defender of all Americans. In response to congressional questioning regarding the Department of Justice’s decision not to prosecute the Black panther’s case in Philadelphia, Holder replied:

“Think about that,” Holder said. “When you compare what people endured in the South in the 60s to try to get the right to vote for African Americans, and to compare what people were subjected to there to what happened in Philadelphia—which was inappropriate, certainly that…to describe it in those terms I think does a great disservice to people who put their lives on the line, who risked all, for my people,” said Holder, who is black.[emphasis added]

I don’t think that I have to remind Mr. Holder that his people are the American people. In his position, there cannot be any divisions based on race, class, ethnicity or sexual orientation. He is (supposed) to be the bulwark of the Constitution…and if we cannot trust his impartiality or neutral application of the law, then who can we trust. I cannot help but think if those same comments were made yesterday by a white Attorney General, that he/she would be a former Attorney General today.

Crisis, Crisis and Gas Prices: Where is the outrage regarding the ever escalating gasoline prices at the pump? Oil futures are now trading at over $100 per barrel and pump prices are now exceeding $3.30 nationwide. In our present weak economy, these increases, like those seen in the spring and summer of 2008, can be a deal breaker for our fragile recovery. Certainly the reasons for the price increases can be found in the recent insurrections and instabilities in the Middle East. But there is also the 900 lb. gorilla in the room when it comes to the gasoline prices that Americans pay now and will pay in the future. This is the reluctance of the Obama administration to endorse and allow oil exploration and drilling on American soil or in American waters. It appears that Obama has been successfully indoctrinated by the greenies and global warmists…and it also appears that there will be no new meaningful oil exploration until the next GOP president takes control of the White House. Until that time (hopefully in 2012) we will be at the mercy and caprice of Middle eastern potentates and strongmen…and subjected to the vagaries of a quickly changing world political arena. As such, expect that gasoline prices might top out at $5.00 a gallon, and that your plans to lead a “normal” life might be placed on hold, accordingly.

Cowards at Home and Abroad: The fourteen still-AWOL Wisconsin senators should be dealt with harshly by the government of Wisconsin. As of today, the remaining GOP legislators have passed a resolution that fines these cowards $100 per day, after a two day continuance absence from the senate, that is set to start on Friday. This weak punitive measure follows the withholding of their pay and certain senatorial benefits like photocopying privileges. But these “punishments” to date have done nothing to loosen the intractability of the absent legislators. Something powerful and financially painful needs to be done to let these cowards know that they were elected to do all the people’s business, and not that of their favored unions special interests. Unfortunately, there are criminal cowards abroad who have murdered two US servicemen on board an airport bus in Germany. The gunman was reported to have cried “Allahu Akbar” or “Jihad, jihad” when he opened fire on the bus marked “US Air Force.” The gunman, identified as an ethnic Albanian, was subdued after his gun jammed. I guess cowards come in all forms, their cowardice manifests itself in all forms, and they exist in great abundance both here and abroad.

My heart is broken and my soul aches. My little Daisy was struck by a car and killed today after she escaped out the back door of my home and charged into the road after a dog being walked. She died in my arms. I don’t have kids…so my dogs are the closest substitute that my wife and I have. And I can’t claim a monopoly on grief…my wife is devastated and inconsolable. But I just don’t have words to describe how much I hurt.

My office is in my home, so my four dogs are my constant companions. And Daisy and I had a special relationship…she always had me within eyeshot, and if I sat down on a couch or a chair she had to be in a position to lay a loving paw on me so that there was a physical connection between us. I worshiped the ground she walked on, and from her actions, I knew it was reciprocal.

God has His reasons why these things happen. I will never presume to second guess God. But in my despair, I have to ask “Why?”

I pray for God’s strength and grace. I’m going to need a lot of both from now on.

The screening rules and practices of the TSA strike me as “guilty until proven innocent.” Subjecting all air travelers to the full body scans, or if the individual opts out, to an embarrassing grope fest by TSA screeners neglects the rights of each travelers — and subjects each traveler to an unreasonable search and seizure.

Sure, those who defend the screenings will declare that the processing of passengers in such a manner is necessary given the almost limitless cleverness of those who would harm us. But just because someone has tried to implement a certain method in an attempt to bring down a commercial airliner doesn’t mean that every person who wishes to travel by air is guilty of that crime. By subjecting everyone to the standard screening, the TSA and the US government is taking the easy way out. They are using their power to control the sheeple — yes sheeple, who are herded into inspection areas and performing whatever inspection criteria that the government authorities dream up. This inspection criteria is performed in the name of safety and security. But we know that this premise is poppycock. If the real motives were safety and security, then all Middle Eastern men would be automatically subjected to the closest of scrutiny. And wheelchair-bound elderly, nuns and grandmothers would be saved the indignity of full body screenings or pseudo-erotic pat downs.

In other words, our security personnel would profile, and they would profile those from social, ethnic and national groups who demonstrated (from experience) the proclivity to endanger US commercial air flight. They would profile according to the actual threat arising from the passenger. But no, rather than do the rational…the intelligent, our hyper-PC TSA decided to implement the sheeple approach. And they decided to encroach up the rights and liberties of 100% of the prospective air travelers. Because the ACLU and CAIR and other organizations growled and frowned upon singling out the ethnic cohort who actually have a historical record of flying airliners into buildings, attempting to ignite shoes and underwear, and plotting to do similar damage in conspiratorial groups. God forbid that we should implement a cogent screening process that profiles such high-risk travelers.

So, here we are with the TSA’s “misery loves company” approach to air travel screening. And if a person chooses to opt out from this screening, for whatever reason. why they are handcuffed and detained…in some cases their tickets are destroyed before their eyes. All this a result of the “Constitution Free Zones” (CFZ’s) that have been carved out at each airport and within 100 miles of the US coastline/border. Don’t know what a CFZ is? I suggest reading up. Whether you know it or not, you have ceded your rights when you enter an airport to travel. And many of us live in a CFZ when we put our feet up and relax at home. This begs the question: Is this still the land of the free and home of the brave?

It is almost unbelievable that the US government resorts to disabusing its citizens of their rights (something that they simply cannot do according to the Constitution) in situations like airport security screening. But the government is seeking not only the easy way out, it is seeking the PC way out. And they will accomplish this through any force necessary. It is easier for the TSA to herd and screen the sheeple with the threat of intimidation than it is to do the real heavy lifting involved with security (like the process that El Al has implemented in response to the constant threat that threatens Israel). It’s easier to just make rights disappear, and treat everyone like a proto-criminal.

This is wrong…it is unconstitutional and it must change if we are to remain in compliance with our Constitution. We the people wish to be safe. But we the people do not want to be unduly trifled with — particularly by our own government.

Apparently the deep thinkers at the Associated Press can’t keep their story straight. On today’s news wire they have several stories purported to be reports of Glenn Beck’s 8/28 “Restoring Honor” rally. The real story in all this are their stories, and what’s included and what’s missing.

As an organization that is obviously über left-leaning, the AP must revert to form when trying to do “objective” reporting. This means that most or all of the information that comes from them is filtered through the prism of liberal politics. And, as the assumed house news organ for the Obama White House, they must add their pink tinge to the stories that they write.

Excellent cases in point are their collective reportage on 8/28 “Restoring Honor” rally at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington. Here are some of the examples:

1.) Beck: Help us restore traditional American values

But they found it necessary to add these incongruous tidbits in this story:

A group of civil rights activists organized by the Rev. Al Sharpton held a counter rally at a high school, then embarked on a three-mile march to the site of a planned monument honoring King. The site, bordering the Tidal Basin, was not far from the Lincoln Memorial where Beck and the others spoke about two hours earlier.

Sharpton and the several thousand marching with him crossed paths with some of the crowds leaving Beck’s rally. People wearing “Restoring Honor” and tea party T-shirts looked on as Sharpton’s group chanted “reclaim the dream” and “MLK, MLK.” Both sides were generally restrained, although there was some mutual taunting.

One woman from the Beck rally shouted to the Sharpton marchers: “Go to church. Restore America with peace.” Some civil rights marchers chanted “don’t drink the tea” to people leaving Beck’s rally.

Sharpton told his rally it was important to keep King’s dream alive and that despite progress more needs to be done. “Don’t mistake progress for arrival,” he said.

He poked fun at the Beck-organized rally, saying some participants were the same ones who used to call civil rights leaders troublemakers. “The folks who used to criticize us for marching are trying to have a march themselves,” he said. He urged his group to be peaceful and not confrontational. “If people start heckling, smile at them,” Sharpton said.

Eleanor Holmes Norton, the District of Columbia’s delegate to Congress, said she remembers being at King’s march on Washington in 1963. “Glenn Beck’s march will change nothing. But you can’t blame Glenn Beck for his March-on-Washington envy,” she said.

Other activists distributed fliers urging voters “dump Obama.” The pamphlet included a picture of the president with a Hitler-style mustache.

2.) Beck draws on Obama stump speech from 2008 race

Again, the AP found it necessary to insinuate a non sequitur into their article about Beck’s rally –  a reference to President Barack Obama:

At his rally with tens of thousands on the steps of Lincoln Memorial, Beck used the closing lines of then-candidate Obama’s campaign stump speech of 2008.

Obama used a similar message on the campaign trail. He used to say that one voice could change a room, one room could change a city, and one city could change a state. Obama liked to say that state could change a country and urged supporters to go out and change the world.

The “one man can change the world” like has been around far longer than Mr. Obama. In fact, the AP says that Beck uses a “similar message” when in fact Beck’s and Obama’s messages are quite different. So, why the comparison? Why now?

3.) Beck says US has ‘wandered in darkness’ too long

Yet another example, similar to Eample 1.) where they had to force in unrelated statements into the mix:

Civil rights leaders protested the event and scheduled a 3-mile plus march from a high school to the site of a planned King memorial near the Tidal Basin and not far from Beck’s gathering.

Karen Watts, 57, of Mount Vernon, N.Y., was among those attending the King rally and march. “The dream is not forgotten,” she said. “I live my life honoring Dr. King to make sure I’m part of that dream, by serving my community.”

Of Beck’s rally, she said, “They’re American citizens. So long as they don’t infringe upon my rights … let them do what they do.”

Eleanor Holmes Norton, Washington’s delegate to Congress, said she remembers being at King’s march on Washington, which she said prompted change and ended segregation in public places. “Glenn Beck’s march will change nothing. But you can’t blame Glenn Beck for his March-on-Washington envy,” she said.

and

Many in the crowd watched the proceedings on large television screens. On the edges of the Mall, vendors sold “Don’t Tread on Me” flags, popular with tea party activists. Other activists distributed fliers urging voters “dump Obama.” The pamphlet included a picture of the president with a Hitler-style mustache.

The Rev. Al Sharpton, leading the civil rights march and rally, mocked the Beck production. “The folks who used to criticize us for marching are trying to have a march themselves,” he said. “We come because the dream has not been achieved. We’ve made a lot of progress. But we still have a long way to go.”

He said he wasn’t seeking a confrontation with those at the Beck rally.

“We wouldn’t disgrace today by allowing you to provoke us,” he said in remarks directed at the Beck followers. “If peopple start heckling, smile at them,” he told fellow marchers.

4.) Crowds for rally disrupt DC rail system (from the Boston Herald)

This whole story seems to be a knock at the rally attendees as though the act of riding the metro system was in itself “distruptive.”

So let’s see, the AP tried to constantly remind the reader that there was a competing rally held by Al Sharpton in Washington. And by all estimates, the crowd at Beck’s ranged from 250,000 to 500,000 — whereas  Sharpton’s “rally” could only muster (by very generous estimates) 3,000! Yet there is the AP doing what a good propaganda organization always does; it makes up the truth as they see it rather than reporting on reality. But try as they could, they just couldn’t seem to be able to morph Beck’s rally into a Seig Heil-ing Nuremberg rally, replete with swastikas and burning effigies of their heroes.

Nope, the only folks that attended were fed up Americans, many our friends and neighbors, looking for a way out of the current morass that grips our nation. And you know what? Glenn Beck should be lauded for the fantastic job that he did organizing and then successfully pulling off this rally. For such a large crowd, there were NO reports of violence or trouble. I’m so proud of each and every man, woman and child, exemplary Americans each, that attended and showed the strength of character of our nation, even when faced by such derision in our representation and our government. And when faced by such apparent hostility and condescension by the MSM.

My advice to you is simple: When it comes your consumption of the news — Caveat emptor, my friends.
