July 2011

It’s time that the Congress authorizes the purchase of millions of shovels in order to put the legion idle goody-getters to work. If someone is going to receive an “entitlement” from the US government, then they must be expected to expend some energy for the privilege. Shovels, and the hard work that they would assist doing, would be the national tonic that we would need to break so many citizens from their no-fault government-individual co-dependency. Our nation cannot remain a viable international entity for much longer by the continued fostering idleness and the cultivation of class warfare, sloth, envy and greed without a shred of return for our collective investment. When our purported “representatives” in Washington begin to consider deep cuts in the defense budget (which by the way is a constitutional mandate) over making common-sense and fair changes to the welfare state that our nation has become, then there is something totally wrong with the ethos and moral fiber of our country. It is prime evidence that we have completely abandoned the Founder’s vision and the Constitution.

I was always told from an early age that there are no free lunches. Well, forgive me from Heaven mom and dad…but YES there are! Tens of millions upon tens of millions of checks come from the US treasury on a monthly basis to fund such free lunches. Generations of folks have earned their sole livelihoods from the public dole. And they have given NOTHING back in return, except more and more and more consumption — either by remaining on the system for their entire lives, or perpetuating the practice by having more children, than they could afford if they were indeed working, on our dime and creating further inter-generational dependence.

It’s high time that our representatives started to trade in the currency of common sense and hard work. Those of us with jobs are yoked in the system…we pay our taxes and we live our lives under a certain level of government tyranny. But we’re too busy working for a living to complain much. But I assure each and every one of the five hundred thirty-something elected morons in Washington that we are not amused any more. When trillions are being thrown around like millions, our ire is rightfully stirred.

Just like us, the Congress and this profligate president need to rein in the spending…lessen the debt and live with our means as a nation. They need to start to “encourage” hard work, personal responsibility and self-sufficiency for ALL Americans…not just from taxpayers. They need to create MORE taxpayers…by drastically cutting back the mandated charity that disguises itself as Welfare, WIC and other social entitlements.¬† They need to emphasize that there are no more free lunches.

Only until they cherish and respect the sheer amount of hard work and blood, sweat and tears that the tax revenues that are spent on a daily basis represents can we working American expect a fair shake. Perhaps then these political cowards might summons up the courage to make significant and permanent changes to the modus operandi of our government.

For me, it all begins with a humble shovel…

It appears as though in the run up to the 2012 election that the GOP candidates for president are going to be actually challenging two incumbents. First there will be the actual incumbent, the ineffectual and inept Barack H. Obama and second there will be the state run media, the so-called mainstream media, who are rabid supporters of the incumbent and a dedicated group of so-called “journalists” who would say or do anything to get this man re-elected.

Examples are always necessary, so I offer you two examples of the utter propaganda being offered by the MSM as “news” items, but are not quite so cleverly disguised liberal/Progressive party line drivel:

Leading Democrat says GOP tax argument flawed

Major teachers union endorses Obama’s re-election

The first story describes the attack on the GOP by Obama’s premiere pit bull Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC). Clyburn is a liberal’s liberal…and a sure Obama supporter regardless of the president’s competence — both men are black Democrats. Clyburn’s statements regarding the debt ceiling disagreement in the House are intended to place the GOP in a bad light, and thus Obama’s position in a good light, by making the GOP the bad guys in the fray. Clyburn is using the reliable liberal tactic of attempting to make the Dems the guardians of “everyman” and the GOP the patsies of “the rich.” See, Clyburn’s comments make the GOP seem implacably retrenched in their position on no new taxes because they refuse to consider closing tax loopholes in the existing tax code. But if a tax loophole is closed, doesn’t the individual who previously exploited the loophole pay more in taxes — ergo undergoing a tax increase?

It certainly does! But Clyburn is trying to associate tax loopholes, legal tax avoidance, with “fat cats” and millionaires. It doesn’t matter that such loopholes may be exploited by anyone who pays taxes. but such facts are trivial in the political gainsay that may be achieved by engaging in the sinful class warfare that is the hallmark of the Democrat party. Clyburn is the the latest bomb thrower on the right — aided and abetted by the AP, the Progressive’s trusty media lapdog.

The second story should surprise nobody. Does anyone with an IQ greater than 15 think that the teacher’s unions anywhere would endorse or support a Republican for any elective office? Certainly not, given the more-than-cozy historical, and almost symbiotic, relationship between the Democrats and the unions.

But the ringing endorsement as described in the story reveals the selfish motivations of the NEA and other teacher’s unions. The unions will support Obama, who has been an abject failure as president. Our country is in historic jeopardy as a viable nation under this man’s “leadership.” We have 9.1% unemployment, multi-trillion dollar deficits and debt and a crisis in our culture where an almost majority of Americans believe in an entitlement nation or outright depend upon the government for their living. But these problems matter little because Obama and the NEA have the same education “visions.” I postulate that this vision includes a favored, protected and special interest status for the NEA and other unions by the administration. Just look at the way that Obama used his “Present” response to pressing national issues regarding the recent union brouhaha in Wisconsin. All the Democrat senators in Wisconsin leave the state for parts unknown thus paralyzing the state’s legislature, and Obama has no comment?

Sure, Obama would have stepped in it if he had the courage to comment on this legislative treachery because he would be betraying or sabotaging his cozy relationship with the unions. Unions are a major fundraising artery for the Democrats, and with his track record so far, Obama is going to need an abundance of money if he is going to get re-elected. The unions, particularly teacher’s unions, are his useful idiots.

And by penning the second story, so are the AP.

With such blind support of the liberal/progressive ideology and candidates, the mainstream/lamestream media is going to do everything they can to place GOP candidates in a negative light and in a scrutiny crucible. These candidates will need to stiffen their spines and summon every ounce of virtue and honor that they can in order to do honorable political battle with Obama and his insane media posse. Because everything that Obama has said and done, and will say and do will be massaged and propagandized by a complicit media. And each and every one of us needs to rebuff the shameful bias of this media, and make sure that the hypocrisy is documented and publicized.

This is our country, and the upcoming elections are ours as well. Not theirs.

Sometimes, just sometimes, a picture is worth a thousand words. I came across once such example in my most recent internet meanderings. I’d like to share it with you:

It really does kinda say it all about our Fearless Leader and his failed agenda. Let’s all pray and work hard for a better, alternative outcome in the election of 2012. Our nation cannot endure much more of the insanity, nonsense and cancerous ideology that are the hallmarks of the Obama presidency.

The self-aggrandizement of one man is not more important than the fate of our nation.

July 4th, 1776 was an auspicious day in the history of our nation. It was the day the nascent American Congress declared their displeasure with the suffocating rule of the British crown and their desire for independence from British rule. It marked the beginning of a long and painful process that ultimately led to our formation as a sovereign nation — a nation that cherishes the God-given rights, liberties and freedoms of freeborn men and women.

But July 4th, 2011 marks a date unlike no other in American history. This Independence Day, or more rightly termed In Dependence Day, in 2011 finds the United States and its citizens at a critical crossroads and we are faced with a grave choice of how we are going to proceed in the future as a nation. And this choice…as well as the paths to be taken couldn’t be clearer or more contrasting in their actions and consequences. Do we embrace the present profligacy and the political, moral and social degeneration that we have encountered and endured since the 1960′s or do we reject the ever increasing spending and every onerous assault on our rights and liberties through an almost institutional, constitutional perversion?

Regardless of how it seems, it is OUR choice…that of the American citizens, and not that of our elected “representatives” and “leaders.” The current crop of liberal/Progressive equivalent of political snake oil salesmen to hold office only have sway over us, and are able to roll out their destructive ideology, if WE let them. And we let them do this if we cast our precious votes for them and become their enablers. Sure, it’s tempting and seductive to vote for someone who promises you this or that, and wraps those promises in “entitlements” and other “free” government-provided goodies. But it should eventually occur to even the most selfish and greedy among us that a free ride can only last so long before the money runs out and the game is over. July 4, 2011 is just as good a date as any to signify that realization and that end date.

If it were up to me, I would declare this July 4th as a date of personal introspection and as a day where each citizen is asked to reinvigorate their commitment to constitutional principles of government. We need such bold actions if we are to exist for much longer as a prosperous, viable nation. But unfortunately, such actions are only my dream given the rigid, destructive ideology of those, from top to bottom, who control the levers of power in our government.

I can, however, use the words of a young and vigorous 20th-century president, John F. Kennedy, a Democrat mind you, whose time in office came and went far too quickly because of an assassin’s bullet, to implore my co-inhabitants of this land to strive to change our present national circumstance:

And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country.

My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man.

Finally, whether you are citizens of America or citizens of the world, ask of us the same high standards of strength and sacrifice which we ask of you. With a good conscience our only sure reward, with history the final judge of our deeds, let us go forth to lead the land we love, asking His blessing and His help, but knowing that here on earth God’s work must truly be our own.

We have either consciously decided to turn our backs on the thrift, honor and virtue that was the hallmark and strength of our Founders, or we have decided, as freeborn men and women, to loot the largess and capital of our good nation in order to satisfy purely selfish motivations. And our actions, and inactions as well, have led us to this place of spiritual, moral and financial turpitude this July 4th holiday.

Is it too late for us to be saved as a nation? That question is unanswerable without the concerted effort of the majority of the American people. It can only occur if we break the bonds that bind us to the government…and demand that that government shrinks in power and size from its present state of being. It can only occur if we change our expectations to from within to from without. It can only change if we return to an embrace of and strict fealty to the Constitution. It can only change if we as individual Americans want it to change.

Human nature being what it is makes our challenge difficult, and perhaps impossible. Our experience tells us that the lesser angels of man’s nature are very powerful indeed. But mankind has encountered, endured and successfully fought off far worse scourges than those presently afflicting our nation. It took willpower, intense sacrifice and great upheaval to do so, but time and time again these lesser angels were indeed vanquished or sufficiently beaten back. The only things separating modern-day Americans from undertaking this challenge are the strength of character and the force of will to do them. Otherwise, we will succumb to the present malaise in virtue, morals and values and break, like no other American generation in history has broken, our inter-generational trust with our children and heirs. Will we be the first generation in American history that will leave our children and heirs poorer and more in debt than our forebears left us?

So let us take up President Kennedy’s challenge this July 4th and beyond — one that rejects a harmful individual-government co-dependency in favor of a return to self-reliance and citizen-centric government. And that means a government for ALL citizens, and not just for special interests and certain favored groups. We need to reject the sinful pull of profligacy, of ever-expanding government and of individual-government co-dependency. We need to go home once and for all, back to the Constitution and all that it, in it’s original form, means to each of us.

Really, it’s no big deal, after all the only thing riding on our success is the future viability and existence of our nation.

For some time now it has appeared that desperation and exasperation has crept into the zeitgeist psyche of the AGW (Anthropogenic Global Warming)-support community. With each passing day, and with each strong rebuttal of the underpinnings of the AGW theory, the new theories or proofs of theories become more and more and more specious, speculative and tentative.

A prime example of this state of matters, what I like to personally call shoudda, woudda, coudda, is encapsulated in this recent AP story regarding a new, ominous theory that supports AGW and portends dire consequences for inaction and (of course) suggests that we cease our use of CO2-producing energy before it’s too late:

Warming ocean could melt ice faster than thought

I hate to even link to alleged news articles like this, because it might add to the appearance of credibility for the pure claptrap they report. But the best disinfectant for such things is sunlight, and I strongly feel it is a necessary responsibility to rebut these things as they arise.

I urge you to read and reread the article several times (it is short). If you will, count the number of times that a declarative (will, is, won’t, can, etc.) rather than a speculative (might, could, should, etc.) statement is made in describing the new “oceans-will-melt-faster” theory. I get eleven declaratives and eight speculatives in a cursory reading. However, if one removes the extraneous fluff, like how some action will cause some result…not associated with the theory, then the count becomes eight speculatives to four declaratives.

Through the use of clever journalistic techniques, one reads — at face value — a mainstream news story that seems like it solidly supports the underlying AGW theory, without a doubt. But if you take the time to strip away the extraneous information it contains, not related to the nub of the story, then the theory that the story purports to be rock-solid¬† proof, in this case of AGW, becomes quite speculative and specious.

It goes without saying that in the case if AGW, with all the power to be had and money to be made by those who would force us to accept it, that for the average man or woman two words must come to the fore whenever they read or hear such a story…

Caveat Emptor!
